The present work aims to verify if the disruptive technological progress, especially robotization, is significantly affecting the employment level in the productive chain of the Brazilian automobile industry. Based on model proposed by Acemoglu and Restrepo (2017) and Autor and Salomons (2018), the work verified whether the introduction of robots in the automobile industry is destroying jobs, especially middle skill occupations, which are more exposed to the effects of robotization. To this end, it was used as a proxy for the technological progress the imports of industrial robots disclosed by the Ministry of Economy (ME) and for labor demand, the admissions by education level was used, disclosed by CAGED, from 2007 to 2019. For the empirical verification was used the Error Correction Vector (VEC) model. The results shown that differently from what happens in the United States, there is a positive relation between middle skill workers hiring and robots’ imports for the Brazilian automobile sector.
