The Balance of Risk Score (BAR), Survival Outcomes Following Liver Transplantation (SOFT) and Donor Risk Index (DRI) scores are predictive systems for post-transplant survival. Aim: To evaluate the most accurate score and the best cutoff point for each predictor in the brazilian population. Method: Retrospective cross-sectional study of 177 patients. Data on the recipient, donor and transplant were analyzed and the prognostic scores BAR, SOFT and DRI were calculated for each transplant. To determine the BAR and SOFT cutoff points associated with death in three months, ROC curves were adjusted. Results: The best cutoff point for BAR was 9 points with an area under the ROC curve=0.69 and for SOFT it was 12 points with an area under the ROC curve=0.73. The DRI score did not discriminate survival (p = 0.139). Conclusion: The SOFT score proved to be better than BAR for survival analysis post-hepatic transplantation and the DRI was not effective.

Intralesional cryosurgery in benign vascular lesions: A good option for cherry angioma and hamartomas over port-wine stain Criocirurgia intralesional em lesões vasculares benignas: Boa opção para angioma rubi e hamartomas sobre mancha vinho do Porto
Trevisan F.; Arida D.K.K.; dos Santos L.D.S.; Zakszewski P.T.S.; Walger F.B.M.Z. (2021)
© 2020Cryosurgery is a technique widely known and used among dermatologists. Intralesional application is already used to treat keloids and has the advantage of restricting the zone of action of low temperatures of liquid nitrogen. The use of contact cryosurgery in vascular lesions is well reported in the literature, but there are no intralesional technique publications on these types of lesions. Here, we report two cases, one of port-wine stain hamartomas in a 61-year-old patient and another of a cherry angioma in a 70-year-old patient, safely and satisfactorily treated with intralesional cryosurgery.

Oncocytoma of the caruncle: A case report Oncocitoma em carúncula: Relato de caso
Hirt B.; Worma M.B.; Rastelli G.J.C.; Kormann R.B. (2021)
© 2021Oncocytoma is a neoplasm rarely observed in clinical practice and reported in the literature, especially when located in the eye. When described in the ocular adnexa, it is most often located in the caruncle. The case of a 74-year-old Caucasian female patient is reported. She complained of visual discomfort in the left eye, and physical examination showed a tumoral lesion in the left caruncle, of moderate volume, presence of neovascularization, and excessive secretion. Surgical excision of the lesion was performed under sedation, and the specimen was sent for pathological examination. The lesion was histologically diagnosed as oncocytoma with no malignancy, and the patient presented no recurrence after the procedure. Although rare, this tumor must be recognized by ophthalmologists due to the risk of developing adenocarcinoma, as already reported.

Left common iliac vein compression identified by vascular ultrasonography in asymptomatic women: Does standing position influence diagnosis?

All rights reserved. Background: Vascular ultrasonography is the imaging exam of choice for initial screening for left common iliac vein compression, which is an asymptomatic finding that can be detected in up to 25% of some patient samples. Objective: To determine, using vascular ultrasonography, whether findings of left common iliac vein compression in asymptomatic women are different when assessed in the prone and standing positions. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study of 50 adult female volunteers with no symptoms of pelvic venous compression. The parameters assessed with vascular ultrasonography in the prone and standing positions were diameters and maximum velocities of the left common iliac vein at the point at which it crosses behind the right common iliac artery and before this point, in addition to left common iliac vein velocity indices at the crossing. Results: Eight cases of significant compression of the left common iliac vein were identified when assessed in prone position (16%) and just two cases (4%) were identified in the standing position. Left common iliac vein diameters were statistically larger (p = 0.002) at the point where it crosses behind the right common iliac artery in the standing position and velocities and velocity indices were statistically higher (p < 0.001) in the prone position. No significant compression of the left common iliac vein was identified in the standing position when velocity indices were normal in the prone position. Conclusions: There was no difference in detection of significant compression of the left common iliac vein when assessed in the standing position in comparison with assessment in the prone position. However, the study showed that anatomic compression of the left common iliac vein may be reduced in the standing position.

© 2021 Associacao Medica Brasileira. All rights reserved.OBJECTIVE: The aim was to study the prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress in a sample of Brazilians and their relationship with sex, age, and work situation, and compare if these symptoms change with 8 weeks of quarantine. METHODS: Online survey to collect epidemiological data and apply the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R). Eight weeks later, the researchers requested the same requirements to complete the BAI and IES-R and compare the results. RESULTS: The sample of 287 answered the first and second questionnaires, being 72.8% women, with a median age of 22 years. In the first interview, the median BAI was 12 (7–19) and the median IES-R was 27.0 (15–40); in the second, the median BAI was 11 (6–22) and the IES-R was 30 (15–41) with p<00001 and 0.09, respectively. Anxiety levels were worse in females (p<0.0001 for both BAI and IES-R) and in those who worked/studied in the area of health (p=0.001 for BAI and 0.01 for IES-R). There was a negative correlation between age and anxiety (p<0.0001 for BAI and IES-R). CONCLUSIONS: A high prevalence of anxiety that lowered after 8 weeks were found. Anxiety was worse in females, in younger people, and in those who worked/studied in the area of health.
