Agile software development has emerged as an effective approach
to address the dynamics and variable demands of modern information
technology projects. In this context, methodologies such as Scrum and
Kanban provide adaptive frameworks that may be more or less suitable
depending on a variety of project-related factors. This study investigates the
factors that influence the choice between these methodologies in software
development environments. The work presents a theoretical framework and
a field survey conducted through a questionnaire distributed to
professionals who are either familiar or unfamiliar with these agile
methodologies. The collected data indicate that the decision on which
methodology to adopt is influenced not only by project characteristics such
as scope and deadlines but also by the expertise and personal preferences of
the development team.
