Abstract
The present scientific article seeks to identify the primary causes behind the pronounced and ongoing rise in femicide rates in Brazil. This is in spite of the numerous recent efforts by both the Executive Branch and the Brazilian National Congress to enact laws and devise public policies geared towards the punishment and prevention of this crime. Furthermore, the article offers suggestions to bolster both the prevention and response to this crime. The research delves into the origins of femicide and its deep-seated effects on society, showcasing up-to-date statistical data. These statistics highlight the gravity of this issue as a pressing social concern, particularly given its prevalence. The study conducts an analysis of the aggressor's profile—a facet frequently neglected in similar studies—and probes into the cycle of domestic violence. Understanding this cycle is crucial to discern how and in which scenarios femicide transpires, particularly given its frequent origination within victims' own households. The article subsequently provides an overview of the evolution of, and the present state of, the Brazilian legal framework designed to safeguard women's rights and counteract femicide. The efficacy and design of public policies aimed at aiding female victims of domestic violence are also assessed. The article culminates with suggestions intended to enhance efforts to prevent and tackle femicide.
