A forma
Cinema can be understood as a source of social and behavioral construction, and also as a source of prejudice dissemination. Hollywood, the largest and most influential film industry, has created and propagated negative stereotypes of Arab and Muslim people through its characters for many years, which to this day are perpetuated in movies. The way of portraying these populations is directly associated with the relationship of the United States of America and the Middle Eastern countries, since these patterns contained in the films changed as the conflicts between these countries occurred. Over an orientalist and eurocentric perspective, this categorization was propagated through soft power and settled into the unconscious of the viewers of these films. The way Arabs and Muslims were portrayed is racist, and these stereotypes, propagated through entertainment, brought about false generalizations, which allowed the worldwide marginalization of this population, resulting in situations of prejudice. Hollywood worked for the dehumanization of these people. Recently, stereotypes are being softened due to demands coming from viewers and new perspectives resulting from globalization, political consumerism, and corporate incorporation of Human Rights and Business.
