Abstract
The present work aims to make a comparative study of two narratives that are presented in different formats: a novel and a graphic novel. More specifically, A Study in Scarlet(1887),by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and A Study in Emerald(2003),by Neil Gaiman. Our starting point is a contextualization of the graphic novel and romance concepts, toestablish themethodological path chosen for the analysis in question. After that,we’ll study, both, the Victorian periodsand Post-War period’sliterary trends, as well as Conan Doyle’s and Neil Gaiman’s presence integral partsof their time’s literary production. Once that is done, we will proceed to comparing both narratives, by outliningsimilaritiesand dissonances between them, using Bakhtin’s conception of dialogism.
