dc.description.abstractSeveral intervention models for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have been proposed in the literature and among them, parental training has received much attention in recent years. The present project is a segmental study from the multicenter project: parent training with video modeling for the acquisition of new repertoires and decreased disruptive behaviors in children with autism. It happened through video modeling, when parents learned the strategy based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) called Discrete Trials Teaching. The main objective of the current project was to understand and describe, from the perspective of the parents, the model of parental training by video modeling during the last 18 months after the end of training, and the secondary objective were to characterize parents and children from the point of view of some variables, such as the use of services and/or interventions and learning; describe the parents' report on the training model; describe the impact of training with an emphasis on eye contact and joint attention and to evaluate the possible improvement of symptoms in children. The sample was of convenience, composed of the intervention group of the initial project, (N = 34) parents and their children with ASD (current age of 5 to 10 years, 24 boys and 10 girls). It respected the criteria for exclusion in which the father should have participated in at least 50% of the training sessions or who currently resides outside the state of São Paulo. The sites were FMUSP, UNIFESP, UPM or in another chosen by the father. It was applied in a single phase, when the father responded individually to a semi-structured questionnaire prepared by the researcher and the "ABC - Autism Behavior Checklist" scale. It was authorized by the ethics committee of UPM and UNIFESP-HSP. The results show that parents have learned how to help their children develop eye contact skills and joint attention, but they have not acquired the knowledge to perform maintenance and generalization. Regarding the decrease in symptoms, the majority of the children show evolution in the improvement of the behaviors. The training was promising, but we observed the parents' need to have access to permanent training.eng
