dc.description.abstractThe writing for string orchestra by composer Claus Ogerman is the core of this article. It raises raising questions about the movement of Bossa Nova arguing that this movement might not be only considered as a uniquely Brazilian style. During the development of the aesthetic style, occurred processes involving cross-cultural institutions, transnational record companies and non-Brazilian musicians, specifically the orchestrator Claus Ogerman, have to be considered. By analysing his writing for string orchestra, this article intends to identify Ogermans contribution for the construction and consolidation of Bossa Nova Style as a means of expression of Brazilian culture. This analysis will provide a comparative analysis between the musical languages in which Ogerman transitioned, also in regard to influences on the partnership established with Antonio Carlos Jobim. With the specific purpose of identifying the relationships between the languages of classical and popular music, the arrangement of Claus Ogermans song Jobim (Desafinado) will be analysed in detail.
