dc.description.abstractThe study presented here addresses the teaching of environmental education in the context of the Mais Educação (More Education) Program aimed at understanding how a proposal of integral education was translated into pedagogical practices by educators of a public school in the city of São Paulo. The Mais Educação Program was instituted in 2007 by the federal government and, inspired by the experiences of great educators such as Anísio Teixeira and Darcy Ribeiro, it represents the largest policy of the promotion of integral education in Brazil. Understanding integral education as a qualified extension of students stay in schools, the program established a system in which school units would extend their workday to shifts of more than seven hours per day by combining classes in the compulsory primary education curriculum with extracurricular activities related to art, sports, health, environment actions, review classes and other diversified pedagogical activities. Environmental education is among these diversified areas, being one of the strategies for the implementation of integral education. The program establishes this concept and to be developed marked by the principles of interdisciplinarity and transversality. From the theoretical references that address the challenges of integral education as a pedagogical proposal presented by authors such as Moll, Cavaliere, Coelho, Mignot, Brandão, Arroyo and Zuchetti and from the academic discussions in the field of environmental education proposed by authors such as Phillippe Jr, Pelicioni, Fracalanza, Tozoni-Reis, Ramos and Lopes, in addition to reading and analyzing official publications, the study makes a reading of an account of the action of environmental educators who started to work in a state school Participant of the Mais Educação Program. Through this report it was possible to understand the contributions of integration between social educators and the school, besides the conflicts between the experiences of environmental education developed in school regarding in the context of the Mais Educação Program. From the interviews, this study establishes the pertinent connections to integral education and environmental education, who allow a comprehension about the limits and possibilities of environmental education in the school from the point of view of educators.The deepening of the relationship between the community and the school, as well as the integration of formal and non-formal knowledge represent important findings of the contributions of Environmental Education for the implementation of Integral Education through the More Education Program. The study also verified the emergence of conflicts and uncertainties regarding the performance of community educators in the organizational structure of schools.eng
