The growing concern for sustainability in supply chains, particularly in the context of food packaging, highlights the critical importance of reverse logistics as an essential process to minimize environmental impacts and meet demands for more sustainable practices. This study focused on understanding the impact of packaging reverse logistics in the Brazilian food sector, considering environmental, economic, and operational aspects. It was identified that flexible packaging, prevalent in the food industry, poses significant challenges concerning recycling, amplified by governmental regulations imposing responsibilities on companies for proper waste management. Despite the initial costs associated with implementing reverse logistics, it became evident that this practice plays a crucial role in the competitiveness and compliance of sector companies. The methodology adopted in this study involved an exploratory and descriptive quantitative approach, using quantitative research with questionnaires to capture perceptions on reverse logistics practices. The collection of primary and secondary data, along with detailed quantitative analysis, aimed to identify relevant patterns and trends for the research. The results indicated that packaging reverse logistics not only benefits the environment but also drives the financial and operational efficiency of food sector companies. However, challenges such as the need for adequate infrastructure and stakeholder awareness underscore the importance of a collaborative approach. This study contributes to an understanding of the impact of packaging reverse logistics in the food sector, emphasizing its relevance for sustainable development and pointing out potential areas for future research.
