The historical analysis of the forms of social relation, of economic regulation, and of government allows us to shed light on the development of society as well as to evaluate the reality in which we live. To this end, it is desirable to do so with the greatest neutrality if one intends to achieve effective responses to the investigated doubts. Certainly, starting from the choice of the theme and its verticalization, and also through the election of theoretical references, does not guarantee absolute impartiality. The proposed research grounds its theoretical framework on the Theory of Representation, by Hanna Pitkin, and on the Representation Paradox, according to Antonio Carlos Alkmim. It is then considered the models of representation thereby present in order to understand to what extent the instrumentalisation of democratic governments has been able to fulfill the premises on which the theory of democracy is structured. Therefore, the objective of this research is to discuss the evolution of the paradigmatic models of political representation, as well as to point out their differences. In the end, it was possible to conclude that in a context of largescale and plural societies, and in order to allow a more efficient expression of the target interest, democracy should not be restricted to processes, nor should it give the whole decision-making task to the parliamentary representation. It is necessary, through a deepening of the institutionalization of democracy, that more spaces of participation in the local instances be opened so as to better relate government, administration, and interests of societyeng
