© 2024 IEEE.Recently, graphene has emerged as a promising material for optical modulators due to its small size, low energy consumption, and high modulation depth. In our research, we design a capacitive structure on a side-polished optical fiber that can modulate light into four different signal levels, resulting in a Pulse Amplitude Modulation 4-level (PAM-4) format. Our methods for designing and producing the multilevel modulator structure enable us to achieve a cutoff frequency of 229 MHz (458 Mbps) and a drive voltage of 4.77 V.
