dc.description.abstractThis survey is focused on the study of the architectural interventions in buildings and historical sites and specifically the activity of Brasil Architecture Enterprise. Among the several projects and productions realized in the last 20 years, it is important to highlight the production of the architects Marcelo Ferraz, Francisco Fanucci and Marcelo Suzuki, who are actually in charge of the projects of this kind. Brasil Architecture has been active for almost 30 years, realizing about 40 projects where the contemporary intervention in the historical heritage can be clearly observed. The interaction between the new and the old, actually seen as opposites, will be the leit motive of this production and its analysis will permit an interesting discussion about the matters that make possible the interventions in buildings and historical sites and everything that is being produced which is related to this matter. In the last two decades, the increase in the number of the interventions in buildings and historical sites got the attention of the media and several events. Nowadays there is a rising awareness of the importance of restoring a building or an historical building giving it a new social utility, helping its integration in the community, the rehabilitation of the urban space and keeping alive the memory of the place. The present experience shows us that many buildings and historical sites are rehabilitated and restored following the new demands of the contemporary society. Bearing it in mind, this survey analyses the production of the architects, since the very first contact made by Marcelo Ferraz with the architect Lina Bo Bardi, when he became a trainee at the Social Service of Commerce (Sesc) of Pompeia, Sao Paulo SP, until he reached fully maturity with its recent work at the Museum of the Bread, Ilopolis RS. With the theoretical basement and the survey of the data related to Brasil Architecture Enterprise, it will possible to analyse the professional journey of the architects, considering the contemporary intervention in buildings and historical sites and focusing on the presence of Lucio Costa and Lina Bo Bardi as fundamental for their training output. The analysis of the ideas and practice of Lucio Costa and then of Lina Bo bardi will be extremely important as main leading rules in relation to the intervention in a building or historical site and of course as a link with the production of Brasil Architecture Enterprise. Even if it is still a recent and acting object of our study, the professional journey of the architects Marcelo Ferraz (and Marcelo Suzuki, who collaborated with them for 14 out of 27 years) seems solid and well established for the impressive number of projects of rehabilitation and restoration of buildings and historical sites already realized.eng
