dc.description.abstractThe thesis purpose is to prove that it is possible to qualify a space through acoustic projects considering the specific needs of users with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is firstly proposed to describe how the space perception by Man occurs, and what is the sound influence in this mechanism. Next, the reason for the choice of ASD as sampling is explained, and it is presented how sound-related sensory disorders manifest themselves. Questionnaires are applied with those responsible for children with ASD in order to relate everyday sounds that are more irritating or attractive. Theoretical explanations on rooms acoustics geared towards the school environment follows, and tables with acoustic characteristics of different types of materials are presented (tradicional, for acoustics and special devices). As a case study, four rooms were chosen, three in the Paulicea College and one in the TEAMack Laboratory, both in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The acoustic performance of these rooms was simulated in the Audioborn software, to verify the occurrence of sound distortions and reverberation time (RT) measurements. In order to defend the thesis, finally there are the projects to qualify the rooms studied, general and specific solutions considering the way of use, as well as a table with general guidelines on how to design for people with ASD.eng
