Resumo
Os aspectos relativos à escravidão na sociedade romana se modificaram ao longo da história devido à influência de diversos fatores sociais, políticos e culturais. Tal instituto encontrou-se tutelado pelo Direito Romano, que possuía categorizações e terminologias próprias para serem aplicadas aos indivíduos libertos, diferenciando-os em graus de liberdade, autonomia e cidadania dos demais nesta sociedade. Este trabalho analisa as características desses homens, que apesar de livres estavam obrigados a certos deveres e restritos a diversos direitos jurídicos, políticos e sociais, sendo, em certos casos, até excluidos da condição de cidadão romano. Desta forma, se demonstrará a ideia de liberdade condicional e as obrigações jurídicas que norteavam a condição de liberto e, no mais, buscar-se-á evidenciar o processo de construção e evolução de seus status social dentro da sociedade romana.
Aspects related to slavery in Roman society changed throughout history due to the influence of different social, political and cultural factors. This institute was protected by Roman Law, which had its own categorizations and terminologies to be applied to freed individuals, differentiating them in degrees of freedom, autonomy and citizenship from others in this society. This work analyzes the characteristics of these men, who, despite being free, were bound to certain duties and restricted to various legal, political and social rights, and in certain cases, even being excluded from the condition of Roman citizens. In this way, the idea of conditional liberty and the legal obligations that guided the condition of freedman will be demonstrated and, moreover, the process of construction and evolution of their social status within Roman society will be sought.
