By the use of installed fibers inside the city we demonstrated a 48.8 km ultralong Erbium-doped fiber laser in modelocking regime with repetition rate varying from 1-10 GHz. The shortest pulse duration of 42 ps at 2.5 GHz was obtained by optimization of intracavity dispersion. © 2010 The Optical Society of Japan.
