© 2021 IEEE.Using different samples of mechanically exfoliated graphene as saturable absorber in Erbium-doped fiber laser, we identified a transition in the mode-locking starting mechanism from non-self-starting (with monolayer or bilayer graphene) to self-starting (with trilayer or multilayer graphene) which is a strong indicative of fast-to-slow saturable-absorption response dependence on the number of graphene layers.
