dc.description.abstract© 2019 Instituto de Estudos Avancados da Universidade de Sao Paulo.The text discusses the city in its postmodern condition, understanding its material and symbolic body through the study of the utopia that generated the modern city of the twentieth century and the construction of new corpus of ideas of the contemporary city. This trajectory, which has generated very rich spaces, will be the doctrinal basis by which urbanists of all stripes will generate the urban spaces of tomorrow. The notion of utopia weaves through the entire text because it is an essential argument for overcoming our current urban problems.
