© 2016 IEEE.This article presents the use of two different computational platforms (RTDS & MATLAB/Simulink SimPowerSystems) as tools for the analysis and comparison of harmonics, power quality (PQ) and the dynamic response of a HVDC system. The electric grid used in this study is a modified CIGRÉ HVDC Benchmark System model. The paper shows that the applications of these tools allow the comparison of results between platforms in order to better understand the operational consequences of a recloser located on a 13.8kV feeder on the inverter side of a HVDC system. A short-circuit is applied in the AC network to verify the propagation of a voltage sag across the distribution feeder and the HVDC link. In addition, simulations help one to understand the dynamic behavior of an AC/DC system interaction.
