© 2017.This research analyzed the leader's role in the organizational culture of a service provider familyowned company, founded 19 years ago and with its administrative headquarters based in the city of Campinas/SP. Currently, the company is controlled by the same main core family of its foundation, with other family members also having been members of the organization through the years. Of a total 35 administrative sector employees, 25 answered a questionnaire to evaluate the company's organizational culture, and an interview was also conducted with the founder and current president. The results indicated that both the members' (employees) and president's perceptions converge to the need of changes that evidence some cultural aspects, and a marked presence of the characteristics of a family base and origin was also observed, which were clearly established by the founder's personality (values and beliefs) and transmitted to the company. We then concluded that the founding leader is the fundamental piece in the definition and molding of a company's culture, especially in family-owned businesses, in which he plays an important role, since in most cases he sees the company as an extension of himself.
