All rights reserved.The article argues that the Brazilian constitution granted in 1824 would be a complex compromise solution between the debates of the period and the Constituent Assembly project, which was dissolved in 1823. Starting from this assumption, the authors seek to unravel the intricate web between rupture and continuity in the long process of constitutional elaboration that extends from the opening of the Constituent Assembly on May 3, 1823, to the granting of the Constitution on March 25 of the following year.
