All rights reserved.The objective of this study was to problematize the overlapping of the socio-historical context with the immediate circumstances of production of the speech “They are easy because they are poor”, enunciated by the now ex-deputy Arthur Do Val. Mobilizing French Discourse Analysis concepts applied to the set of speeches by the former parliamentarian leaked to the press, the research identified a discursive subject affiliated with a discursive formation strongly characterized by misogyny, (re)producer of an expression that recovers one of the already- sayings about “easy woman” in the discursive memory of Brazilians, and that in the public-man position he would possibly enunciate as in the common man, were it not for social constraints.
