dc.description.abstract© 2018 Asociacion de Linguistica y Filologia de America Latina. All rights reserved. It is intended to raise three questions: (i) the narrative nature of history as a record of events; (ii) the role of rhetoric in the selection and explanation of historical facts in Linguistics; (iii) the “revolutionary leader” role construction in the language studies and its Brazilian reception. For that, the Historiography of Linguistics will be the theoretical-methodological axis and will conduct proposed reflections, within Philosophy and Theory of History. A case study follows the theoretical reflections, emphasising the analysis of the elaboration of the historical image of Noam Chomsky as “revolutionary leader”, as symbolically represented in the works As ideias de Chomsky [Chomsky's ideas] and Revolução na linguística [Revolution in Linguistics] in his Brazilian translations. The discussion points to a critical evaluation of the types of historiography elaborated throughout the history of the science of language and its contribution to the reflection on history and its representations.
