The VLF propagation path NWC to Sao Paulo, Brazil, passes through both the Brazilian and South African Anomalies. Particle produced ionization in the South African Anomaly is identified by its expected poststorm continuation up to 3-4 days. By comparing it with another mid-latitude path outside the anomaly it is shown that there is no D-region enhancement in the South African Anomaly. Any ionization enhancement in the Brazilian Anomaly should increase to a new level just after a major magnetic storm but no evidence for such VLF effects could be found. © 1975.
