All rights reserved.Biomedical applications of silicon carbide (SiC) are becoming ever more known and discussed, with more and more scientists interested in researching this topic. As SiC is a recognized biocompatible material, exploring the antimicrobial properties of its different material forms, including nanostructures and coatings, is imperative for use in biomedical devices and implants. The studies reported so far show that SiC nanostructures and coatings have significant antimicrobial properties. In this chapter, we present an overview of this important topic of SiC material application. The main methods of synthesis of SiC nanostructures and coatings are summarized. Furthermore, their antimicrobial properties are presented and discussed. Finally, the future perspectives of this research field are addressed.
