dc.description.abstract© 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reservedNowadays organic bioelectronic sensors are drawing even more attention due to their outstanding characteristics such as high sensitivity, miniaturization, large scale production and low sample volume. In this scenario, electrolyte-gated organic field-effect transistors (EGOFETs) based biosensors stand out. This review will address the fundamental concepts behind the use of EGOFETs as biosensors, their main microfabrication and functionalization processes, the role of organic semiconductors and the analytical performance of the EGOFET-based biosensors. Finally, we will provide a rational design of EGOFETs for biosensing and future perspectives for this emerging technology.
