dc.description.abstract© 2019 Elsevier LtdIn this work, for the first time, the effect of graphene oxide on the photodegradation behaviour of polypropylene-graphene oxide nanocomposites is presented. The graphene oxide was characterised, and AFM images show that the GO can be classified as multilayer-GO (mGO). Based on previous work, two new methods were used, liquid-phase feeding (LPF) and solid-solid deposition (SSD), to insert pre-exfoliated mGO into the polymer matrix. Moreover, the morphology and structure of the nanocomposites were analysed using an optical microscope, rheological and dynamic mechanical analysis, x-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry. The results show that stacked layers are obtained, especially for the SSD method, since it decreases the nanocomposites viscosity, mostly due to the self-lubricity of mGO layers. Finally, the photodegradation behaviour was investigated and revealed that mGO plays an important role, with a factor of three increase regarding photodegradation resistance, when compared to pure polypropylene.
