The format of chelonian eggs is rather uniform within a given species. However, variations have been observed for a large number of species in several existing families. The present work evaluated the presence of special eggs, called 'oil eggs' (yolkless eggs), in nests of Podocnemis expansa (Amazon turtle). Fieldwork was carried out during five reproductive seasons, in the Javaés river, Tocantins State, Northern Brazil. After their localization, the nests were opened and eggs were counted, measured and weighted. It was observed that the yolkless eggs can be present in more than 76% of the P. expansa nests, being bigger (length and width) and heavier than normal eggs.
