Resumo
The authors describe the case of a 36 year old patient with systemic lupus erythematosus that developed an atypical bleeding peptic ulcer and required several blood transfusions and surgical treatment. Following this, she was found to have multiple intra-abdominal arterial stenoses (left renal and superior mesenteric artery) causing severe arterial hypertension, left kidney atrophy, and mesenteric angina. The condition was thought to be caused by the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies. After control of hypertension, the patient was anticoagulated and became asymptomatic.
