Objective: To describe and discuss evidence-based articles on the association of epilepsy, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and tic disorders. Method: A review of the most relevant papers on the association of OCD, tics and epilepsy. Results: Psychiatric disorders are common in patients with epilepsy. Nevertheless, the association between obsessive-compulsive symptoms, tics and epilepsy has not been well studied in the literature. The most frequent case reports describe OCD and tics in temporal lobe epilepsy patients or in patients that had been submitted to epilepsy surgery. Conclusions: Considering that these disorders interfere with the quality of life of epileptic patients, it is clear that it is important to investigate their presence and that every candidate to surgical treatment should have a psychiatric evaluation prior to the epilepsy surgery and should be followed afterwards.
