In methodological terms, the review method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) was used to analyze the evidence available in the Web of Science® and Scopus® databases. As a result, the study highlights thematic categories related to the rediscovery, by local demand, of organic products and trips to rural areas, forms of innovation related to the development of new products and services, availability of labor and, finally, the importance of policies for the development and regulation of the sector. The results of this study contribute transversally for the clarification of the main categories that involve studies of agritourism and rural tourism in moments of uncertainty, by means of the analysis of the evolution of the theme and the possibility of developing new research which would cover other areas that compose the touristic environment.
