Numerical studies on the Lyapunov exponents of the generated signals are presented and related to the performance of this chaotic communication system. One of the possible motivations for using chaos in communication systems is the fact that these signals can be broadband. In systems in which chaotic signals modulate independent narrowband sources, as the ones proposed in the resulting signals usually have a bandwidth larger than what would be considered necessary to their transmission. The Spread Spectrum (SS) modulation was first developed for military applications, in which the resistance to intentional perturbations is of utmost importance. There are also civilian applications that can be benefited from the unique characteristics of SS modulation.
