All rights reserved.The search for sustainable energy sources has expanded the interdisciplinary dialogue on the importance of seeking alternatives for a common future. From this perspective, this article aims to analyze the legal and socio-environmental impacts of the use of photovoltaic solar energy in Brazilian rural properties. The issue is related to the intention to identify the possibilities and obstacles to the use of such an energy matrix, especially with regard to the correct destination for the disposal of solar panels - an aspect that still suffers from adequate regulation. The research uses the deductive method, based on bibliographical and documental approaches, aiming at the construction of an exploratory and descriptive study. The conclusion indicates that, currently, there is no adequate regulation with regard to solid waste generated by energy production, which can make a solution that at first turns out to be interesting and promising, ends up generating major negative impacts in the long run. Thus, it is important to think of ways to meet generational needs in the so-called sustainable practice.
