Project-based learning plays a significant role in the development of students' skills and competences, besides promoting an innovative teaching approach focused on collaboration between student and teacher. Taking into account the necessary skills for the biologist professional, as well as the requirement to elaborate a project for the Course Conclusion Work (TCC), it is relevant to understand and analyze the development process of college students in a project discipline (TCC). With this goal in mind, a form was prepared and applied to students of the Biological Sciences course at a university located in São Paulo, aiming to understand the profile of the projects prepared, the difficulties faced during the production process and the disciplines that contributed to the development of the project throughout the course. We were struck by the difficulty in understanding the topics that make up the research project, as well as the fact that they had not identified having already prepared a project previously in a basic discipline, which, like the TCC, is focused on the preparation of research projects. Besides the related difficulties, it was also presented the importance of stimulating autonomy, providing constant feedback, and promoting collaboration between teacher and student for the development not only of skills, but also of the structure of the project itself.
