dc.description.abstractWhile accessing information on the lnternet is relatively easy and of low cost, no guarantee can be given as to the quality of webpage content; hence the importance of studies aimed at reviewing the information made available through this medium. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate how Brazilian webpages convey information on anti-obesity drug therapy and to test the applicability of an instrument developed for this type of evaluation. Using the Google search engine, terms related to pharmacological anti-obesity treatment were used to retrieve Brazilian webpages in Portuguese. Exclusion criteria were applied, to eliminate certain Uniform Resource Locators (URLs). A research instrument designed by the authors and based on a literature review was used to check for the presence of Technical Quality Criteria, revealing low frequencies of relevant data such as authorship, date of publication and list of references. Overall, the pages retrieved were considered unreliable. Care should thus be taken in using them as sources of information on anti-obesity drug therapy.
