This paper analyses the use of an existing, low loss, photonic crystal fiber for Raman amplification over the wide low-loss window of silica fibers. We show that the low attenuation of the studied fiber would allow for high net gains to be achieved both in the O- and C-bands, enabling its use in commercial systems. © 2007 IEEE.
