© 2023, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. The lifetime of an anodic pin in aluminum production process with Söderberg technology is around 3 years. The main consumption factor of the anodic pin is the corrosion of the steel by sulphide. To find a protective coating that will withstand the cycles of use and cleaning of anode pins is the main problem. The objective of this study was to investigate the formation and application of Iron Aluminide, due to its high resistance to sulphidation, as a coating for anodic pins. The application method chosen was the deposition of the mixture of aluminum and iron powders using laser cladding. Results showed the formation of iron aluminide, either in the form of FeAl or Fe3Al during application, which makes this material promising for this purpose.
