dc.description.abstract© 2018 Editora PUC-Minas. All rights reserved.This article provides for the first time a Portuguese translation of Amarna letter EA 15 from the Akkadian original. The translation is followed by a textual and political commentary embedded in a theoretical approach borrowed from the field of International Relations. Letter EA 15 marks the rise of Assyria to the selective group of political units with hegemonic prerogatives in the Amarna system. The interpretation defended in this article is discussed in light of the studies presented at the interdisciplinary symposium Amarna Diplomacy, edited by Raymond Cohen and Raymond Westbrook and published in 2000.
