Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the integration of simulation and value stream mapping (VSM) tools as a solution for optimizing manufacturing operations in a manufacturer of components for the automotive industry. This study was developed in three phases and considered as an object of analysis a manufacturing cell. In the first stage a VSM was used to map the flow characteristics of the production cell and the respective correspondent sources of waste. In the second phase, the VSM has been integrated into a system of production simulation to analyze the adhesion between the real and simulated models. In the third phase were developed and evaluated several scenarios for optimizing the manufacturing operations of the production cell. The results of this study showed that the integration of production simulation and VSM tools allows to develop a virtual model of production that represents the actual production flow is able to analyze scenarios for optimizing manufacturing operations.
