Resumo
This research seeks to understand the importance of Brazilian Public Libraries, in particular, the Mário de Andrade Library, whose main objective is to bring part of the historiography, which remains alive through the stories from which they have been preserved over time, and to enable the discussion about the role of public libraries as a support space for the contemporary community. Some of the authors who served as a goal are Hannah Arendt; Herman Reipert; Lillia M. Schwarcz; May B. Negrao; Pierre Nora, Roger Chartier and Milton Santos. It should be noted that the Circulating Section receives a greater number of visitors per year, and in July, become the largest audience. Despite the public changes altering some BMA rules, it remains a democratic place, offering visitors, from periodicals to rare works, as well as a lot of culture and leisure. Although BMA is temporarily closed to the public, in the pandemic times, the hybrid library innovates and promotes a full agenda of interesting activities, relevant to the current moment; bringing the public closer by including digital information, with cultural and socio-educational content for all.
