Relação entre investimento direto estrangeiro e crescimento econômico : o caso da Etiópia

Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to economic growth in Ethiopia, using data obtained from World Bank and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the World Bank from 1980 to 2016 with annual time series. The research used the VAR method to examine the quantitative effect of FDI on economic growth in Ethiopia. The study also used Granger causality test to examine whether a causal relationship exists between FDI and the country’s GDP. The study finds a positive relationship between FDI and GDP growth in the long run. Furthermore, the study finds that a causal link exists between FDI and GDP growth in Ethiopia and the nature of causality is unidirectional.

Este estudo tem como objetivo principal investigar a contribuição do Investimento Direto Estrangeiro (IDE) para o crescimento econômico da Etiópia, com base em dados anuais de séries temporais obtidos, principalmente, do Banco Mundial e da Conferência Geral das Nações Unidas sobre Comércio e Desenvolvimento no período de 1980 a 2016. Para realização dos testes empíricos foi utilizado o modelo de vetores auto-regressivos (VAR) para examinar o efeito quantitativo do IDE sobre o crescimento econômico da Etiópia. O estudo também usou o teste de causalidade de Granger para verificar se existe uma relação causal entre o IDE e o Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) do país. Os testes indicaram que o IDE contribui positivamente para o PIB do país e esse efeito cresce gradativamente, sendo maior no longo prazo. Além disso, a análise constatou uma relação causal entre o IDE e o PIB da Etiópia, sendo a natureza da causalidade unidirecional.
