Resumo
This study has revealed the journey and the results of a photographic image production at the Cazumbá-Iracema Extractive Reserve, Acre, and an original photographic work. The research has used visual anthropology which aims to study mankind through images. The objective was to reveal the lifestyle and peculiarities of the extractivist culture. To capture how extractivists perceive the world, the methodology included use of phenomenology, oral histories and interpretation of the images produced by both the researcher and the extractivists themselves. In this research images were used as data and catalysers of visual and poetic narratives, which go beyond the mere task of illustrating texts. With this photographic work of almost ten years, it was possible to give voice to the extractivists, rescue memories, value the extractivist culture and create aesthetic experiences with the dwellers of the Reserve. The photographic workshops were conducted following principles of a critical and transforming environmental education, allowing for the creation and strengthening of meetings, revealing space for creation, strengthening bonds, stimulating imagination and co-imagination. With this, we could see the strengthening of ecological subjects, scientist citizen, and the unfolding of potential political and social events such as the growth of community-based tourism and a collaborative network between dwellers, researchers and visitors from a particular way of establishing bonds. The main theoretical reference was Paulo Freire who built the base for pedagogical discussion and reflection about reflexive, cultural, conscious and emancipatory educational processes. The images had the role to provoke thoughts, questionings and changes. The extractivist culture was revealed from a transdisciplinary vision based on social and affective intervention through use of the photographic language, a process which promoted cultural consciousness, identity values and environmental behaviour.
