Resumo
In the past, the business environment was stable and managers navigated the challenges and focused their strategies on cost savings. Today, as digitalization progresses in business, it enables the supply chain to generate more valuable and affordable services to consumers. In this perspective, cloud computing can impact strategic procurement management by allowing data resources and analytics functions to become more effective for competitive advantage. Thus, in the context of transaction cost theory, this study aimed to evaluate the mediating effect of cloud computing on the relationship between strategic purchasing management and operational performance. In order to do so, an exploratory research of the qualitative-quantitative type was carried out and data collection was done through a structured questionnaire and applied to a sample of 117 respondents, composed of managers of companies that use cloud computing in the process of management. The data collected were treated by structured equation modeling, supported by SmartPLS software. As a result, it has been found that the use of the digital tool, cloud computing, partially mediates the relationship between strategic purchasing management and operational purchasing performance. This result has led to implications for theory and for administrative practices.
